National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has appointed a ten-member team of MPs to coordinate support and funeral arrangements for the late Emurua Dikirr MP, Johana Kipyegon Ng’eno.
The team, tasked with liaising directly with the Mp’s family on all send-off preparations, will be led by Tinderet MP Julius Melly and deputized by Mugambi Rindikiri. It includes eight other Members of Parliament to ensure comprehensive assistance during this difficult period.
Speaker Wetang’ula announced the appointment in an official communication to the House on Saturday, when he confirmed MP Ng’eno’s passing.
”I have appointed a team led by the Member for Tinderet Constituency, Hon. Julius Melly, CBS, MP and assisted by Hon. Mugambi Rindikiri, CBS, MP and eight other Members, to liaise with the family to coordinate support for the family including send-off, upon decision by the family,” the statement read in part.
Ng’eno, who was serving his third consecutive term in Parliament after first being elected in 2013, died alongside five others in a helicopter crash in Mosop, Nandi County, around 4:45 p.m.
In his statement, Speaker Wetang’ula expressed profound sorrow on behalf of the Parliamentary Service Commission, the National Assembly, and himself, extendingcondolences to the family, friends, and the people of Emurua Dikirr.
”On behalf of the House, the Parliamentary Service Commission and on my own behalf, I convey our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the late Hon. Ng’eno and the families of the other passengers whose lives we have also lost,” Wetangula said.
At the time of his demise Ng’eno chaired the Departmental Committee on Housing, Urban Planning and Public Works. He played a key role in advancing legislation, including contributions to the Affordable Housing Act, 2024.
The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority has launched an investigation into the cause of the fatal crash.
