ODM leader Raila Odinga and several other leaders have congratulated World Marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge on his MM Marathon victory.

“What a great performance and flawless display of mastery coupled with dominance," said Raila on Kipchoge's victory of 2:04:28 at the event held in The Netherlands. "Keep flying the Kenyan flag high as we head to the Olympics."

The marathon held at the Twente Airport in Enschede, Holland on Sunday April 18, was a comeback statement for Kipchoge after flopping in the London Marathon in October 2020. The reigning Olympics Champion and World Record Marathon holder is preparing for the Olympics which will be held in Tokyo, Japan, in mid this year.

Fellow countryman Jonathan Korir was second with a time of 2:06:4.

Other leaders who congratulated Kipchoge were Baringo Senator Gideon Moi who said the runner "exuded the true Kenyan spirit, the spirit of perseverance and ultimate victory," and Nandi Governor who described it as an "epic display of strength."

Iten, where most of the elite athletes train, is in Nandi County.
