Parents and teachers from four schools in Mumias East have urged the area MP Peter Salasya to urgently complete roofing and renovation works on nearly 20 classrooms whose roofs were removed and left unfinished.
Led by Jadwin Wabuyabo, they expressed frustration over stalled National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) projects, saying pupils are now paying the price.
“We have seen our area MP Peter Salasya campaigning for presidency and also campaigning for their parliamentary candidate in Malava. Yet back home pupils are suffering due to stalled NG-CDF projects,” said Wabuyabo.
The schools affected are Mung’anga Primary, Shitoto Comprehensive, Emakhwale, and Musango.

Renovation works began in March when contractors removed the old roofing sheets, but six months later, the classrooms remain incomplete.
Parents said the situation has created a crisis, with learners being forced to crowd into the few available classrooms.
“He instructed contractors to come and remove old roofs for renovation, but it is six months now and nothing has been done. Now 90 children are forced to share one class due to shortage,” Wabuyabo lamented.
Teachers admit learning has been heavily disrupted, while parents warn the congestion poses health and safety risks.
Headteachers from the affected schools, however, declined to be quoted, saying they would require clearance from the Ministry of Education before addressing the media.

Speaking by phone from Mombasa, area MP Peter Salasya dismissed claims of neglect, insisting the matter was being politicized.
“I know these things are political. They want to bring me down. But I can assure you, contractors will be on site by next week,” he said, adding that the works would be completed within two weeks.
