A security team from Isiolo joined their counterparts from Meru to pursue raiders who killed three people and stole hundreds of livestock from the Meru side.
The police who were led by the local National Police Reservists (NPR) encountered a group of the raiders at Nasuroi area around 3 am on Saturday where a fierce exchange of fire ensued between the two sides.
According to an incident report from Gambela police patrol base and seen by TV47, the bandits were repulsed.
“The bandits escaped towards Ewaso Nyiro River direction, abandoning sixty looted herds of cattle and one donkey, which were previously raised from Tigania East sub county,” Police reported.
The recovered animals were handed over to the owners on Saturday afternoon at Ngaremara, on Isiolo side of the border with Meru after they were positively identified by the owners.
The exercise was witnessed by a security team from Isiolo led by the Sub County Police Commander and a Gambela chief.
By the time of going to the press, security teams were pursuing some of the raiders into Samburu East sub county in areas like Archers Post, Sereolipi and West Gate.
Another group of security teams are also pursuing raiders who stole livestock from the Maili Nane area in Buuri Constituency.
Isiolo County Police Commander Paul Wambugu, said the raiders fled towards Lebarua area in Isiolo west but police were combing the entire Lebarua Wildlife Conservancy, where the animals are suspected to be hidden.
