The 2026 National Rugby Fifteens Championship got off to an exciting start, with Saint Mary’s School Yala, Upper Hill School, Menengai High School, and Kisii School all registering impressive wins in their opening matches of the ongoing Brookside term one secondary school games in Kisumu.
Saint Mary’s Yala edged past All Saints Embu with a narrow 10-8 victory in a tense opener. In the second fixture, Upper Hill School delivered a dominant performance, cruising to a 26-0 win over coastal Kwale High School.
Menengai High School produced one of the standout results of the day, thrashing Mang’u High School 46-5 in a commanding display. Meanwhile, Kisii School pulled off a surprise victory, narrowly defeating Kakamega School 16-14 in a tightly contested encounter.

The girls’ category of the championship also got underway with thrilling performances, as Paul Harris Secondary School, Kinale Girls Secondary School, Mwira Girls Secondary School, and Mbagathi Girls Secondary School all secured victories in their opening matches.
Paul Harris set the tone with a strong 20-3 win over Sidindi Secondary School. Kinale Girls followed with an emphatic 22-0 triumph against Saint Joseph’s Kitale Girls Secondary School.
Mwira Girls maintained the momentum with a solid 12-0 win over Saint Theresa Embu Secondary School, while Mbagathi Girls wrapped up the day with a hard-fought 17-10 victory against Sigoti Girls Secondary School.
