A man accused of orchestrating a fraudulent scheme involving a fake firearm certificate has been arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts after allegedly conning a victim out of Sh300,000.
The suspect, Aarif Ibrahim Gani, was presented in court by detectives from the Operation Support Unit (OSU), following months of investigations into the scam.
According to police reports, Gani, together with an accomplice who is still at large, allegedly duped the complainant into believing they could secure an official firearm certificate for his son.
The suspects allegedly created a well-coordinated narrative to win the victim’s trust, assuring him that they had the connections and ability to facilitate the approval process.
Investigators revealed that the offense took place on various dates between December1, 2024, and March 7,2025.
During this period, the suspect reportedly asked for multiple payments, claiming the money was required to fast-track documentation and handle procedural fees.
The complainant only became suspicious after repeated delays and lack of tangible progress.
In an attempt to calm the growing concerns, the accused allegedly issued a forged letter reporting to be from the firearms licensing board (FLB).
The letter claimed that the technical upgrades within the board were causing delays in the issuance of a certificate, a tactic detectives say was meant to buy time and maintain the deception.
Upon his arraignment, Gani faced charges of conspiracy to defraud, tow which he pleaded not guilty and the court granted him Ksh.100,000 bail with one contact person as surety.
The case has been scheduled for mention on December 15,2025,AS OSU detectives continue to gather additional evidence to support the prosecution.
