Suspect arrested as police seize 380 litres of illicit brew in Meru

A joint operation by officers from the Kianjai Police Post, area chief, and other national Government officers was conducted in Kianjai, Meru County, targeting the sale and distribution of illicit alcohol.

The crackdown resulted in the arrest of one individual found in possession of 380 litres of “Muna”. The suspect was placed in custody pending processing and court arraignment.

At the same time, the National Police Service expressed commitment to intensify efforts to combat the production and consumption of unregulated alcoholic products, which endanger public health and safety.

This development comes after the Government intensified its efforts in cracking down on illicit brews and counterfeit alcohol in the country.

Meanwhile, Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen had vowed that authorities would not relent in the fight against the menace.

Murkomen had initially directed National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs) and the National Police Service (NPS) to launch targeted operations against illicit brew dens and apprehend those responsible for the production and distribution of illegal and adulterated alcohol.

The crackdown comes amid growing public concern over the devastating effects of illicit alcohol, which has caused deaths, health complications, and social disruption in several regions.

Recent operations have seen the destruction of thousands of litres of illicit brew and the arrest of suspects, with authorities emphasizing the importance of safeguarding public health and protecting communities from harmful substances.
