Tanzania qualify for inaugural FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup After AFCON semi-final win

Tanzania have booked their place in the final of the inaugural CAF Women’s Futsal Africa Cup of Nations after a dramatic 3-2 victory over Cameroon at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Hall in Rabat, Morocco.

The win not only secures Tanzania’s spot in the tournament’s first-ever final, but also guarantees their qualification for the upcoming FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup in the Philippines later this year.

The semi-final clash was a tightly contested affair, with both teams displaying defensive discipline in a goalless first half. Goalkeepers from both sides, Ngah for Cameroon and Abass for Tanzania, made several crucial saves to keep the scores level.

The match burst into life in the second half. Tanzanian captain Vaileth Nicholas Mwamakamba broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute with a solo effort, but Cameroon’s Pekure quickly equalized.

Tanzania’s resilience was tested when Zawadi received a red card, leaving her side a player down. Despite the setback, Aisha Mnunka restored Tanzania’s lead with just four minutes left.

Cameroon responded through Beulou, who converted a cross from Mbomozomo to level the scores again in the 37th minute.

However, Tanzania sealed their historic win moments later, as Anastazia Katunzi finished a swift counterattack to make it 3-2. The result sends Tanzania into the final, where they will face the winner of Angola versus hosts Morocco.

This achievement marks Tanzania as the first African team to qualify for the inaugural FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup, underlining the rapid progress of women’s futsal on the continent and CAF’s commitment to developing the sport.
