The Kisumu National Polytechnic was on Friday, September 19 closed indefinitely following disruptions, demonstrations and boycotting of classes by students (trainees) since Monday, September 15, 2025.
In a memo seen by TV47 Digital, the Interim Council of the institution is advising all students to maintain peace and stay away from the premises pending further communication on the dates when classes will resume.
The decision was reached during a meeting held on Friday, September 19 following the countless unrests the school has been experiencing in the recent past, with students accusing the administration of illegal increase in school fee.
“The council affirm that the inconvenient circumstances are highly regrettable and wishes to assure the affectes trainees, parents and guardians that the concerns raised will be investigated and addressed especially with a view to resolve normalcy to the operations of the polytechnic,” read part of the memo.
The resolution comes days after trainees caused rampage in a demonstration that saw the police and students stage a half a day vicious exchange characterised by lobbying of teargas, pelting of stones and allegedly, use of live bullets.
