Grief and disbelief have engulfed Kokwanyo village in Homa Bay County following the shocking news of the brutal killing of Albert Omondi Ojwang, allegedly at the hands of police officers.
Albert, known in the village as a brilliant and soft-spoken environmental enthusiast, was reportedly picked up without warning from his lunch table and taken to Mawego Police Station before being transferred to Nairobi, where he tragically met his death on Saturday June 7, 2025.
Tears flowed freely as mourners gathered at the Ojwang’s homestead, where the pain of a grieving mother and the cries of a heartbroken wife echoed through the village.
“We were told he was safe and would be released soon,” said Joseph Omondi, the family spokesperson. “Now we are being asked to collect his body.”
The family, struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss, is demanding answers from the government. “Why was our son taken? What did he do? Who gave the order for his life to be taken?” Joseph questioned.
A three-day-old nursery seedbed Albert had recently set up still stands, a silent reminder of a man who loved nature and worked to better his community. The village remembers him not only as a scholar, a teacher and environmentalist but as a kind soul who believed in peaceful change.
The family now pleads with authorities to investigate the incident and bring those responsible to justice. “Albert was the only child of his mother. We cannot rest until we know why he died.”
The silence from official channels only deepens the family’s pain, as Kokwanyo mourns a son they never imagined would leave in such a cruel and senseless way.
