Tension is brewing in Kamoingon area in the Kerio Valley, Elgeyo Marakwet County, after unknown assailants raided the Kabarmengen clan and destroyed three houses — an incident that threatens to derail ongoing security efforts in the volatile region.
According to some of the victims, about twenty attackers struck in the middle of the night, tied their hands with ropes, beat them up and inflicted serious injuries before proceeding to destroy their property. The victims said the attackers also threatened to kill them if they raised an alarm.

It is further reported that the gang made away with several livestock belonging to the victims before vanishing into the darkness.
Residents of the Kabarmengen clan now claim the attack is linked to an ongoing land dispute with a neighboring clan. At the moment, three families who lost their homes are sleeping in the open after their houses were burnt down during the attack.
The victims are appealing to the government particularly the Cabinet Secretary for Interior, Mr. Kipchumba Murkomen, to intervene urgently before the situation worsens. They lamented that despite reporting similar incidents in the past, no meaningful action has been taken by the authorities.

Local leaders and elders have also condemned the attack, warning that such acts of lawlessness could reverse the progress made in restoring peace and stability in the volatile Kerio Valley region. They have called for immediate investigations and deployment of more security officers to the area.
