Police officers in Nandi South Sub-County have seized a consignment of illicit brew (chang’aa) following a successful operation along the Serem–Kobujoi Road.
The incident occurred on Thursday evening when officers from the Koitabut Police Post flagged down a suspicious motorcycle believed to be ferrying illegal alcohol.
The rider, however, declined to stop and instead sped off, forcing police to give chase. The pursuit stretched along the Mugen–Kemeloi–Chepgundi route, where the suspect eventually abandoned the motorcycle and fled into nearby thickets, managing to escape arrest.
Upon conducting a search, officers discovered a concealed load of 50 sachets of chang’aa, some of which had already been torn open.
The illegal brew had been packed in both a metal box and a carton, suggesting that the consignment was being prepared for distribution.
Police secured both the motorcycle and the recovered alcohol at Koitabut Police Post, as investigations continue with the aim of apprehending the suspect behind the trade.
In a statement, the National Police Service (NPS) reaffirmed its determination to sustain regular crackdowns on illicit brews, which continue to fuel crime and pose serious risks to public health and safety.
The Service further appealed to members of the public to cooperate by reporting such activities and sharing intelligence with security agencies.
