Field Marshall Muthoni Kirima is dead. She was the only woman soldier who achieved the rank of Field-Marshall.

Muthoni was married to Mutungi Gichuhi with whom she joined the Mau Mau movement with barely a year after they got married.

A ceremony where she cut off her 70-year-old dreadlocks in 2022 stirred emotions among netizens. Former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta was among the attendees that graced the event and gave a hand in the shaving off the dreadlocks.

Field Marshall Muthoni had a transport terminus named after her. The ‘Field Marshall Muthoni Kirima Transport Terminus’ was launched by President William Ruto.
