Thee Pluto hints at MP bid, asks fans if he should join DCP party

In a move that has stirred Kenya’s political and entertainment circles, well-known content creator and former forex trader Thee Pluto took to his Instagram page on Sunday, January 18, 2026, to drop a provocative hint about possibly entering the political arena.

In a series of Instagram stories, Pluto asked his followers whether he should vie for a Member of Parliament (MP) seat under the banner of the newly formed Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Pluto’s message was concise but loaded. “Returning the river where it belongs. Or I vie for an MP seat using DCP so that we can chase away betrayers?” he wrote, quoting a legendary Kikuyu resilience song in the background of a dance clip.

The Instagram story quickly prompted a lively online debate, with supporters lauding his boldness and critics questioning whether a social media personality should mix entertainment with politics.

He followed up with a reflective quote about risking failure rather than not trying at all, hinting that he might be sincere in considering a political pivot.

However, as of now Pluto has not publicly confirmed any concrete plans or named a specific constituency he would target if he decided to run.

The Democracy for Citizens Party that Pluto referenced is gaining traction as a new political vehicle ahead of the 2027 General Election. Launched by Gachagua in May 2025, DCP has been actively recruiting members and positioning itself as a platform for “work and justice,” aiming to draw citizens disillusioned with the old political establishment.

Pluto’s tentative flirtation with politics comes against the backdrop of other high-profile figures from the arts stepping into the electoral fray.

Among them is Octopizzo, the celebrated Kenyan rapper and activist, who has already declared his intent to contest the Kibra parliamentary seat in 2027.

Octopizzo, known off stage as Henry Ohanga, has publicly urged political parties, particularly the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), to broaden opportunities for youth and embrace inclusive leadership, signalling his seriousness about serving his community through elected office.

Octopizzo’s bid has drawn endorsements from notable civil society figures, and his popularity among young voters has generated buzz around his potential impact in Kibra, a key urban constituency in Nairobi.

His campaign emphasizes grassroots engagement and youth representation, contrasting with Pluto’s more tentative exploration of a political path.

The emergence of personalities like Thee Pluto and Octopizzo as potential candidates underscores a growing trend in Kenyan politics: entertainers and digital influencers are increasingly seen as viable contenders for public office.

This shift reflects broader debates about the role of young leaders and fresh voices in shaping the future of governance in Kenya.

Whether Pluto’s Instagram query evolves into a formal political campaign remains to be seen, but it has undeniably added another layer to the dynamic conversation about politics, celebrity, and civic engagement as the country gears up for the 2027 elections.
