Popular content creator and businessman Thee Pluto revealed that he lost KSh6 million from an Airbnb business he set up, which is among other businesses he ‘failed in’.
He revealed that his journey to success began when he was a first-year student at JKUAT, where he had a dream of getting himself a small car and a one-bedroom apartment. Thereafter, he deferred his academics after the first year to look for a source of income.
Having achieved his dream, he resumed his studies, where he says he realized he had to dream bigger from a question his lecturer posed.
“One time, the lecturer comes in and says, ‘How much money do you think after you are done with economics course you are going to get as a salary?'” he narrated. “Then the lecturer said it will be KSh. 25k starting… So I knew it was not about this course that I am doing; I had to dream bigger.”
Thee Pluto said, apart from the accommodation businesses that were earning him KSh. 150k each per month, he also failed in several others, including a movie shop, a bikes-for-hire shop in Juja, and a hotel.
“I have done so many businesses; they failed, but every time I failed, I did not quit because quitters are not winners,” he said.
After the collapse of his physical ventures, Thee Pluto began liquidating his assets during the COVID-19 pandemic and moved to cryptocurrency.
“Then corona hit. So that is when I started selling my things and buying BTC. I was buying Bitcoin at KSh 1.2 million, around October 2020.”
He credits his resilience and openness to mentorship as keys to his growth, urging young people to remain humble and learn from those who came before them.
“Young people today hujifanya kujua, my close friends are people who are in their 40’s and 50’s. they are way old. People you can learn something from,” he concluded.
