Police in Homa Bay are investigating an incident where a group of criminals were busted while slaughtering a cow which is suspected to have been stolen from a farmer.

‎‎The criminals were hiding in a thicket just a few meters from a church.

‎‎Witnesses said the cow had been spotted grazing in the thicket before it was killed on Saturday December 27, 2025 in the morning.

‎‎Police who were called to the scene recovered a machete which the criminals were using to slaughter the animal.

‎‎Arujo Location Chief Bob Lango was among government representatives who were called to the scene and said the suspects were not identified.

‎Mr Lango said the incident has exposed criminals who may want to take advantage of the festive season to sell cheap means to Homa Bay residents.

‎‎The administrator advised residents to buy meat that is certified by veterinary officers.

‎‎He also warned butchery operators against selling meat that is not certified and which may have been slaughtered in unknown locations.

‎Mr Lango said this can lead to spread of infections.

The incident also put on the spot farmers who do not look after their animals.
