Three dead, four injured in horrific head-on crash on Kericho-Nakuru highway

Three people died instantly and four others sustained serious injuries in a road accident early Thursday morning along the Kericho–Nakuru highway near Kedowa trading centre. The crash, which occurred around 3 AM, involved a Toyota Probox carrying seven passengers and an oncoming trailer.

According to Kericho County Police Commander James Ngetich, preliminary investigations point to drunk driving as the likely cause. The trailer was heading towards Kericho town, while the Probox was travelling in the opposite direction towards Londiani.

Police believe the occupants of the Probox had been drinking and were reportedly searching for more alcohol after bars in Kericho County closed in compliance with regulated operating hours.

The four survivors were first taken to Londiani Sub-County Hospital but later transferred to Kericho County Referral Hospital due to limited medical staff availability. Commander Ngetich confirmed that a full investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances of the tragedy. He issued a strong appeal to motorists: “We urge all road users to strictly follow traffic rules, especially during this festive season,” he said.
