Three people lost their lives on Sunday 23,2025 in the morning following a grisly road accident involving a lorry and a 46-seater matatu at Kyumbi area along the Nairobi – Mombasa highway in Machakos County at around 6.30 am.
Confirming the incident Athi River OCPD Mr David Kandie said the lorry enroute to Nairobi was allegedly using the wrong lane after Kyumbi town at the end of the dual carriage road at Mua bridge before colliding with the Matatu on way from Nairobi to Machakos Town.
The driver of the Matatu belonging to Kam Sacco, and two passengers (one male and one female) that were sitting on the front seat lost their lives.

According to Kandie, officers from Kyumbi police station rushed the 37 passengers to Machakos level 5 hospital while the bodies of the 3 were taken to machakos level 5 hospital mortuary.
Meanwhile, Machakos County Executive Committee Member for Health said all the 37 patients are currently being attended to at the Casualty and Radiology departments, and the response is progressing smoothly.
“This morning, we received casualties from a road traffic accident along Mombasa Road involving a Sauti matatu and a trailer. So far, the facility has received 37 patients, presenting with a mix of serious and minor injuries. The Mortuary Department has received three fatalities—one female and two males,” read part of the CEC statement.
