Three suspects arrested with 2,600 litres of chang’aa in Machakos

Police officers from Joska Police Station in Machakos County, led by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS), arrested three individuals suspected of running an illegal chang’aa brewing operation during a routine patrol in the Kavombo area of Lukenya Location, Muthwani Sub-location.

The officers acted on a tip-off that reported a well-known illicit brewer operating near Kavombo Primary School. Upon arriving at the targeted homestead, police found the suspects in the process of brewing what is believed to be chang’aa.

A search of the premises revealed large quantities of illegal brew-related substances, including approximately 2,600 litres of kangara and four 200-litre drums actively fermenting. Additional brewing equipment and materials were also seized.

All items were confiscated as evidence, and the suspects were taken into custody. They are currently assisting police with ongoing investigations and will be arraigned in court once inquiries are complete.

This operation follows a similar crackdown in Zimmerman, Kasarani Sub-County, Nairobi Region, where police raided several chang’aa manufacturing dens in an intelligence-led sweep. Over 2,000 litres of kangara and chang’aa were seized and destroyed.

The operation continues, with the aim of pursuing and apprehending the manufacturers and distributors of the illicit brew.
