TikTok has temporarily suspended late-night LIVE access for millions of users in Nigeria. This move follows a sharp and alarming increase in broadcasts featuring explicit sexual acts and other adult content that violates the platform’s community standards.
The new restriction prevents users from starting or viewing LIVE sessions between 11.00 pm and 5.00 am Nigerian time.
Only creators with 1,000+ followers received the in-app notice, and all LIVE activities were halted overnight.
Users attempting to go LIVE during the prohibited hours are now seeing the option dimmed and marked “No Access,” confirming the platform’s strict enforcement of the rule across the country.
The temporary suspension is part of TikTok’s broader strategy to clamp down on exploitative and harmful behaviour in one of its most active markets.
The platform stated the measure is needed while it reviews safety protocols.
“The suspension is a temporary measure as it reviews safety protocols and works to clamp down on exploitative behaviour on the platform.”
The company has not provided a timeline for when the restriction will be lifted, leaving many Nigerian creators unsure when they can resume their regular late-night broadcasts.
Data shows that Nigeria has become a major enforcement priority for TikTok due to the significant volume of policy-violating content.
Statistics from the second quarter of 2025 illustrate the scale of the problem:
49,000+ Nigerian LIVE sessions were banned by TikTok during this period for breaching monetisation and community guidelines.
3.6 million videos originating from Nigerian users were removed in total for Community Guidelines violations.
This rise in content breaches was largely driven by streams featuring explicit content, monetised sexual activities, and risks associated with child endangerment. The late-night ban is a direct response to this surge in harmful content originating from the country’s streams.
