Traffic disruption on Nairobi-Mombasa Highway after early morning accident, motorists urged to use alternative routes

A major traffic gridlock has paralyzed movement along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway following a fatal road accident near Jet Inn, between Emali and Masimba.

According to a statement by National Police Service (NPS) spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga, the incident occurred early Friday morning and involved four trailers that collided on a railway bridge, killing one person and completely blocking the road on both sides. This resulted in a total traffic shutdown along the affected section of the highway.

Muchiri further stated that police are working closely with relevant authorities to clear the wreckage and manage traffic. Additionally, officers have been stationed in the area to maintain order and ensure traffic regulations are enforced.

“NPS is working with relevant agencies to restore normal traffic flow. Additionally, police officers have been deployed to the area and will take stern action against anyone violating traffic rules.” Part of the statement read.

Further, motorists have been advised to exercise patience, maintain lane discipline, and consider using alternative routes—such as the Machakos–Wote–Makindu road for Mombasa-bound travelers and the Makindu–Wote–Machakos road for those heading to Nairobi—to ease congestion and ensure safety.
