A multi-agency security team in Busia County intercepted a truck that was unlawfully moving huge amounts of ethanol along the Amase-Amongura Road.
Officers became suspicious of the vehicle and pursued it before stopping it and searching it thoroughly. The inspection revealed that the trailer was carrying ethanol without any valid documentation, raising concerns about the legality of the consignment.
A total of 76 plastic containers, each with a capacity of 250 litres, were found inside the vehicle, bringing the total volume of seized ethanol to approximately 18,500 litres.
The illicit cargo is estimated to have a street value of KSh22,200,000.
Three individuals linked to the operation were arrested on the spot and are currently being held in custody as they await formal arraignment in court.
The trailer has since been transported to and secured at Adungosi Police Station to facilitate ongoing investigations.
The National Police Service has reaffirmed its commitment to cracking down on illegal trade, protecting legitimate business, and keeping potentially harmful substances away from the public.
