Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has come out strongly in defence of the 2025/2026 national budget, terming it the best for Kenya’s economic growth.
Speaking publicly for the first time since presenting the budget estimates to the National Assembly, Mbadi dismissed widespread social media claims of excessive tax increases, calling them “immature and misleading.”
Addressing congregants at Lala SDA Church in Homa Bay Town Constituency, where he joined residents for Sabbath fellowship on Saturday June 14, 2025, Mbadi urged Kenyans to remain calm and objective, saying the budget is designed to promote inclusivity and economic stability.
“Kenyans complained over high taxation and therefore we were very cautious as government, to make sure we don’t introduce unreasonable high taxes,” said Mbadi.
Homa Bay Town MP Opondo Kaluma, who accompanied Mbadi, echoed the sentiments, lauding the budget for its fairness.
He noted that if properly implemented, the financial plan would significantly uplift the country’s economy.
