Popular Kenyan rapper Mario TJ Kasela, widely known as Trio Mio, has clarified his ethnic background during a live video session with his mother, Sofia Irma Sakwa.
His mother emphatically stated that the “Cheza Kama Wewe” hitmaker is a Luhya, hailing from Butsotso in Kakamega County.
Trio Mio revealed that many fans often assume he is of Kamba or Kikuyu descent. However, he clarified his diverse heritage, stating he is of Italian and Congolese descent through his father, and Luhya through his mother.
During the playful live interaction, his mother teasingly pointed out that Trio Mio’s Luhya roots are evident “just by the looks of his physique, including his nose,” dispelling other assumptions.
Sofia Irma Sakwa also manages Trio Mio’s career, serving as his personal manager.
Trio Mio, a Kenyan rapper, singer, and songwriter, launched his music career in 2020 amidst the COVID-19 pandemic with his debut single “Bazenga – Vile Inafaa.” Since then, he has collaborated with prominent Kenyan artists such as Ssaru, Savara, Bien, Mejja, and Nellythegoon, releasing hit tracks like “Serereka” and “Rengwa,” which quickly became anthems in the Kenyan social scene.
