U.S. President Donald Trump has weighed in on the growing public conversation surrounding a possible presidential pardon for hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is currently facing a series of serious federal charges.
Speaking to the press on Friday, May 30 afternoon, Trump emphasized that while no formal request has been made, he would be willing to consider it based on the facts of the case.
“It’s not a porpularity context,” Trump said during the press briefing. “If I think somebody was mistreated, I would certainly look at the facts.”
Trump was responding to a question from Fox News reporter Peter Doocy about his previous friendship with Combs and whether he would be open to granting a pardon. The former president revealed that although no one had officially approached him regarding a pardon, there have been conversations circling the matter.
“I know that they’re thinking about it. I think people have been very close to asking,” Trump remarked.
Combs, 55, is currently on trial in New York for multiple federal offenses including sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, and transportation with intent to engage in prostitution. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges. The trial, which began earlier this year, has seen testimony from former employees and associates detailing a troubling pattern of abuse and exploitation over nearly two decades.
Decades-old ‘friendship’
Trump and Diddy seemed to have enjoyed a cordial relationship in the past. In fact, Fox News reports that the two shared a private box along with their wives — Melania Trump and Kim Porter — at the 1997 U.S Open.

However, when recently asked by reporters if they are still close, Trump said that he had not crossed paths with him in years.
“I haven’t seen him, I haven’t spoken to him in years. He used to really like me a lot, but I think when I ran for politics… that relationship busted up, from that I read. I don’t know — he didn’t tell me that, but I’d read some little bit nasty statements,” the POTUS said at a White House event.
