U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday June 24, 2025 that the ceasefire between the two Middle East warring nations, Iran and Israel has gone into effect.
Through a post on his social media, Trump stated that the cessation of hostilities will bring to an end the 12-day deadly exchange of attacks between the two nations.
“The ceasefire is now in effect, do not violate it!” the post read.
However, the state of the ceasefire remained unclear as Israel continued to report missile attacks on its territory, attributed to Iran. The Israeli Defence Forces have not yet commented on the ceasefire.
Iranian state media announced that the ceasefire has been “imposed” on Israel after Iran’s “successful missile attacks,” and went further to claim that Trump “pleaded” with Iran to do so.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi, through his X platform, came out to categorically state that there is no agreement on any ceasefire, further stating that, provided that the Israeli regime stops its illegal aggression against the Iranian people, they have no intention to continue their response.
“As of now, there is no agreement on any ceasefire. However, provided that Israel stops its illegal aggression against the Iranian people no later than 4 am Tehran time, we have no intention to continue our response afterward,” the post read.
Trump’s announcement further stated that Israel and Iran agreed to a “Complete and Total Ceasefire” in the next 24 hours after days of exchanging air and missile strikes.
He, however, did not offer any further details on the agreement from both sides, insisting that they would “Remain peaceful and respectful.”
