TSC advertises CEO position as Nancy Macharia’s term nears end

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has invited applications from interested candidates for the position of Secretary and Chief Executive Officer.

The Commission wants the successful candidate to succeed Dr Nancy Macharia whose ten-year term is coming to an end on June 30th 2025.

Macharia, who has served as CEO since 2015, became the first woman to lead the Commission since its formation.

In a public notice published this week in MyGov, TSC invited qualified Kenyans to apply for the position.

The new CEO will lead the Commission’s work and manage its day-to-day operations.

The role involves setting the Commission’s direction, implementing policies, and ensuring smooth operations.

The successful candidate will serve for five years, with a chance to be re-appointed for another five years. According to the TSC Act, the CEO will also act as the head of the Secretariat, the Commission’s Accounting Officer, and the keeper of all TSC records.

Other duties include supervising staff, making sure policies are followed, and ensuring ethical standards are met.

To qualify, applicants must:

  • Be Kenyan citizens.
  • Hold a degree in education from a recognized university.
  • Have at least 10 years of experience in education, administration and management, public administration, human resource, or financial management.
  • Additionally Meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution on integrity and leadership.

“Applications must be submitted by Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at 5:00 p.m., through the TSC online portal https://www.recruitment.tsc.go.ke, via email to chairperson [email protected], or hand-delivered to the Commission’s offices in Upper Hill, Nairobi,” the advert read.

Applicants must also get clearance certificates from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and the Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).

“After shortlisting, the list of applicants and the interview schedule will be published in the print media and the Commission’s website,” TSC noted.

This appointment comes at a time when the TSC is going through major policy changes and increased attention on how teachers are managed and how education standards are upheld in Kenya.
