Two drug traffickers arrested with 450Kg of bhang along Naivasha-Nairobi highway

Anti-narcotics unit (ANU) detectives have apprehended two drug traffickers and confiscated 450 kilograms of cannabis sativa (bhang) valued at approximately Ksh13.5 million.

Acting on a tip-off, detectives intercepted a Toyota Noah (registration number KBH 226U) driven by Bonface Mandende Zinjenga, accompanied by John Oloo Amolo, near the Delamere shop along the Naivasha-Nairobi highway.

The suspects, along with the motor vehicle, were escorted to Naivasha police station, where the vehicle was found to contain eight gunny bags and eleven bales of bhang weighing 450 kgs, all concealed and ready for distribution.

The suspects and the motor vehicle were later escorted to DCI headquarters for further processing ahead of their court appearance.

This follows an incident in which officers from Baharini Police Station ambushed a trailer suspected of transporting bhang from Busia to Eldoret City. The operation took place in Milimani area of Turbo Sub-County.

The officers intercepted the vehicle—a Sino Truck (registration number KDL 433F/0736)—with three occupants on board. When flagged down, the suspects attempted to flee, but two were apprehended.

A search of the trailer led to the recovery of ten sacks containing green, dried plant material, suspected to be cannabis sativa, which was seized as evidence.

The two suspects were placed in custody pending processing and arraignment, while the vehicle was impounded at the same facility.
