Two suspected robbers were lynched on Monday July 28, 2025 after a violent robbery incident in Kondele, Kisumu County.
The incident was confirmed by Kisumu Central OCPD Bakari Mwanauli, who said that it involved five armed assailants who raided a residence in Kondele.
At approximately 4:07 a.m, the burglars, wielding crude weapons, broke into the rented house of Dancan Moseti Onyiego. Although Onyiego was absent at the time, his friend, Benedict Wafula Kimwei, was asleep inside.
He was forced awake and threatened not to resist, as the attackers made off with a 55-inch LG television, two Co-operative Bank ATM cards, a Samsung A56 phone, and a pair of shoes.
An alarm was raised immediately after the robbers fled the scene. Officers from Lolwe Police Post quickly responded, joining a pursuit alongside residents.
The chase led them to Carwash area, roughly 3 km northeast of the station, where two unidentified male suspects were caught. Tragically, they were subjected to mob justice and died at the scene from their injuries.
Recovered items included:Two 55-inch TVs: LG and Vitron brands, a claw bar and a blue cross-cutter tool, two ATM cards belonging to Onyiego, a green jacket and two mismatched sports shoes.
Other recovered items include a 600-watt sound system belonging to another victim, Emmanuel Owino Owino who was reportedly robbed near his gate while seated in his white Toyota Vitz (Reg. KDN 449C) after allegedly consuming alcohol. His phone, a Samsung A16 for MKOPA, was also stolen.
The scene was documented by detectives and officers from Kondele Police Station, including the Station Commander, Officer Commanding DCI Kondele, OCPD Lolwe, Duty Officer, and CSI unit.
Bodies of the deceased suspects were transferred to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary for identification.
Meanwhile, 3 suspects remain at large and are actively being pursued by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) based in Kondele.
At the same time, authorities urged citizens to avoid taking the law into their own hands and to report any information that could assist in the ongoing investigations.
