DCI detectives have arrested two suspects believed to be at the centre of a black-market network dealing in stolen mobile phones, following a late-night intelligence-led operation in the Githogoro area of Runda.
The operation, carried out at around 8:37 PM, was mounted after detectives received credible information about a syndicate involved in receiving and trading stolen mobile devices .
Acting swiftly, officers from the DCI Operations Action Team (OAT), working alongside DCI Gigiri detectives and Runda Police Station officers, moved in to dismantle the illicit operation.
The team descended on a shop operating under the name E7 Cosmetics in Githogoro, a premises suspected to be a front for the illegal trade.
Inside, officers found two men who identified themselves as the proprietors of the business, later named as Tobias Oduor and Nickson Indasia.
What appeared on the surface to be an ordinary cosmetics shop quickly revealed a far more criminal operation.
A thorough search of the premises unearthed 65 serviceable mobile phones, 7 laptops, and 52 dismantled mobile phones, suggesting that stolen gadgets were being resold or stripped for parts.
When questioned about the items, neither suspect could offer a credible explanation regarding their source or ownership.
A significant breakthrough came when one of the recovered phones was identified as a device that had previously been violently snatched from a victim at Ruaka stage.
The phone was found in active use by suspect Tobias Oduor and has since been identified by its rightful owner, a Ruaka resident.
The discovery has provided investigators with a critical link connecting the suspects to a broader network of mobile phone theft incidents in the area.
All recovered items have been documented and secured as exhibits as investigations continue to establish the full extent of the criminal network.
Both suspects remain in custody and are expected to be charged in court.
The DCI has urged members of the public to remain vigilant and to report any information that could assist in the fight against crime.
