“Two-term” – Youth in Siaya heckle ODM rebel group, declare support for Ruto

A political tour by the ODM splinter group led by Siaya Governor James Orengo, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna was met with resistance in Siaya and Ugunja.

During the political rallies on Sunday February 8, 2026, a group of youths chanting “Ruto two term” disrupted their stopovers and denied them ample time to address the crowd.

Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi led the charge in Siaya Town, declaring President William Ruto “a trusted friend” and urging residents to rally behind him for a second term.

“We have just concluded ID registration and netted more than 10,000 new votes. These votes will help him secure his second term,” Atandi said, dismissing opposition figures as misleading Kenyans with false promises of transformation.

Henry Oluoch Owino from Ugunja constituency echoed the call, criticizing local leaders who oppose the broad based government.

He noted disparities in cabinet representation, saying Nyanza has only two cabinet secretaries compared to eight from Mount Kenya.

“Our request is simple: we need development and empowerment for our people. The only thing Baba Raila Odinga left us with, is this government, and we must remain steadfast in it,” Owino stated.

ODM Youth Leader Joseph Juma and William Otieno  reinforced the youth’s position, insisting that empowerment and development are their priorities.

“No youth had ever gone to State House before, but in this government, the youth are represented. We stand with President Ruto for two terms,” he said.

The chants and speeches underscored growing divisions in Nyanza politics, with sections of the electorate rallying behind President Ruto’s government while dismissing opposition leaders as being out of touch with local needs.
