Detectives from the Nairobi Regional Office have apprehended two women found in possession of substantial quantities of counterfeit US dollars.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) says the detectives carried out a well-coordinated operation in Upper Hill, leading to the arrest of female suspects Ifrah Ali Jeyte and Qamar Salat Abdi.
Upon a quick search in the house, the sleuths revealed numerous bundles of 100 USD denomination notes cleverly concealed in a handbag.
“The extent of their operation became evident when officers conducted a count of the counterfeit currency at DCI Nairobi Area Headquarters, uncovering a total of USD 560,000, equivalent to approximately KSh70 million,” the DCI says.
Both suspects remain in custody, undergoing processing as detectives prepare for their impending arraignment.
