The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has hit back at KANU National Chairperson Gideon Moi, accusing him of authorizing the publication of what it says is “malicious and unprofessional content” in a recent article in the Standard Newspaper.
The response, issued by UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar Hassan, came after the newspaper published an article on October 1, 2025, titled “Rabble Rouser SGs”. Hassan described the article as “an attempt to disparage Secretary Generals of various political parties, including UDA, and misrepresent his letter of September 28, 2025.”
Hassan defended his authority as UDA Secretary General, stating, “It appears lost on you that I am the Secretary General of UDA and that the Chairman of KANU or The Kabarak Chronicles cannot dispute the position of the Secretary General of UDA as a party position or otherwise.”
He further criticized the newspaper for involving other political figures to give credibility to what he called “reckless journalism.”
He said “the casual and arbitrary nature in which you concoct stories and seek to malign citizens of this country is the greatest tragedy of our journalism today,” the statement read in part.
The UDA Secretary General contrasted the privileged background of Gideon Moi with ordinary Kenyans, saying, “The vast majority of Kenyans are not born in privilege; they work hard and live decent lives. It is unacceptable that The Kabarak Chronicles will continuously attempt to pull down others and malign hardworking and decent Kenyans at whim disguised as media freedom.”
This comes just days after the Hassan responded to The Standard Newspaper headline titled ‘Ruto Double Talk’ on Sunday.
He accused the newspaper stating that it is has politically motivated smear campaign against the ruling party and President William Ruto.
In the article The Standard had questioned Ruto for what it described as ‘double talk’, citing Ruto’s stance on critical global issues like the war in Sudan and police crackdowns in Kenya.
