The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party has escalated its internal conflict by issuing a Notice to Show Cause to Kakamega Senator, Dr. Boni Khalwale, demanding an explanation for his alleged disloyalty to the ruling party.
The disciplinary letter, dated October 9th, 2025, and penned by the UDA Disciplinary Committee Chairperson, Charles Njenga, accuses the Senator of gross misconduct and acting against the party’s interests.
The core of the accusation stems from Khalwale’s “open support and participation in the campaigns of a candidate from a different political party” in the upcoming Malava Constituency Member of Parliament by-election, where the rival is directly competing with the UDA candidate.
The Senator has in several occassions thrown his weight behind Seth Panyako, the candidate for DAP-K in the upcoming Malava parlimentary by elections.
The committee asserts that Khalwale’s support for the opposing candidate has been “open, vocal, conspicuous and substantial,” demonstrating a clear allegiance to another political party.
Such actions, according to the UDA, constitute “conduct unbecoming and disloyalty” to the party which nominated him as Senator for Kakamega County.
The notice further cites Article 75 of the Constitution of Kenya and Articles 4 and 68(f) of the UDA Constitution, which obligate party members to observe strict discipline, popularise the party, and comply with party positions.
Dr. Khalwale has been given fourteen (14) days from the date of the letter to file his response at the party secretariat, failing which disciplinary action, including potential sanctions, will be imposed.
The Senator has the right to represent himself or appear with an advocate during the proceedings.
This move by UDA signals a clear crackdown on dissent within the party ranks, particularly in the competitive Western Kenya region, and sets the stage for a dramatic political showdown between one of its most outspoken members and the party leadership.
