UFAA opens door for Kenyans to reclaim billions in unclaimed assets

A fresh notice published in the Kenya Gazette has triggered a 30-day window that could see billions of shillings in unclaimed wealth released to rightful beneficiaries across the country.

The Unclaimed Financial Assets Authority (UFAA) announced that it has identified individuals and estates eligible to receive funds from dormant bank accounts, mobile money wallets, and unclaimed insurance payouts.

“Notice is issued that the Unclaimed Financial Assets Authority has received claims for unclaimed assets from the following persons, claiming as administrators of the estates of deceased persons and agents of the original owners,” the Authority stated.

CEO and Managing Director, Laban Molonko.

The notice effectively begins a one-month period during which any objections or competing claims must be filed before the funds are disbursed.

“Take notice that if no objection has been lodged at the offices of the Authority… within 30 days of the date of publication of this notice, payment will be made to the aforementioned persons,” UFAA added.

This process is part of a broader effort to release billions of shillings currently held by the state, including significant sums tied up in government securities and other financial instruments.

The funds typically accumulate when account holders die without informing next of kin or when financial accounts remain inactive for extended periods.

Kenyans with legitimate claims have been urged to act swiftly and submit the necessary documentation to verify their entitlement.

Members of the public with objections have also been called upon to present their claims within the stipulated timeline to ensure transparency and prevent wrongful disbursement.

Radio 47 set out for a 3 day roadshow across Homa Bay County, from 18th to 20th.

If successfully processed, the release of these funds could provide much-needed financial relief to households grappling with the rising cost of living, while also injecting liquidity into the economy.
