Uhuru Kenyatta opens up on personal health struggles during Frank Ireri’s funeral

Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta has spoken publicly about his personal health challenges for the first time while paying tribute to his close friend and former banker Frank Ireri, who died of cancer.

Speaking during Ireri’s funeral service on Friday, October 31, Uhuru delivered an emotional eulogy, revealing that the late Ireri had offered him strength and advice as they both faced health-related battles.

“I do not know whether I should say this, but these are the realities of life. For the better part of last year and this year, he was very encouraging about the challenges we were going through,” the former head of state said. “Since he had more experience, he guided us on how to handle such issues.

I will miss that counsel and appreciate everything he guided us towards, holding our hands and telling us not to worry.”

Uhuru hinted that he might still be managing a similar condition, adding that life’s trials should be met with acceptance and faith.

“The reason Frank is lying here is because it is his time,” he said. “Those with such challenges will continue fighting, but when it is God’s time, we shall join him and be thankful for the life we lived and the times we shared.”

His remarks come amid persistent speculation about his health, which has circulated since early this year following his reduced public engagements after leaving office.

In recent weeks, however, Uhuru has made increasing public appearances, notably leading the Jubilee Party National Delegates Conference (NDC) and other political consultations, signaling renewed involvement in party affairs.
