Veteran radio presenter Festus Amimo is dead

The media industry is in deep sorrow following the sudden death of veteran radio presenter Festus Amimo, the Head of Mayienga FM. The news broke on the morning of Sunday December 7, 2025 leaving family, colleagues, and fans shattered.

Mayienga FM announced the devastating loss, stating: “It is with profound shock, deep sorrow, and heavy hearts that we announce the untimely passing of our Head of Station, Festus Amimo WA.”

Amimo will be remembered for his exceptional leadership at the station, his powerful breakfast shows, and his profound dedication to engaging and uplifting the Luo community.

Festus Amimo was a familiar and respected voice across the airwaves for years, previously working at Mayienga FM (KBC Dholuo).

His impact extended far beyond the studio. He used his platform to foster dialogue and address critical issues facing the community.

The cause of death has not been officially confirmed but preliminary reports indicate collapsed and died in his room.

Following the news, several high-profile leaders took to social media to express their shock and sorrow, highlighting Amimo’s professional conduct and personal warmth.

Interior PS Raymond Omollo penned an emotional tribute, describing Amimo as a true friend and a warm soul whose humility touched everyone.

Omollo noted his leadership and passion for storytelling “shaped countless voices.”

“Festus was a warm soul, a steady presence and a true friend whose kindness and humility touched everyone around him.”

Governor James Orengo remembered Amimo as a gifted professional whose conduct set a high standard for media.

“Deeply saddened by the passing of Festus Amimo of Mayienga Radio. A calm, collected, and truly gifted soul whose loss is a heavy blow to the entire media fraternity,” the governor wrote.

He praised Amimo’s interviewing style: His on-air sessions were exceptional and marked by grace and depth.

Amimo maintained an “unwavering respect for every guest” who appeared on his show.

David Osiany struggled to accept the news, recalling Amimo’s vision and relentless drive to improve the community through his media platform.

“As the Head of Mayienga FM, you did an incredible job trying to rally the Luo nation behind noble ideas… My heart is broken for your loss, Festus Amimo.”

Osiany concluded that in Amimo’s death, the Luo nation and the wider Kenyan media fraternity have lost an “astute journalist.”

The sudden passing also led to emotional tributes from fellow media professionals, underscoring the deep personal connections Amimo had within the industry.

Urir MP Mark Nyamita expressed devastation, writing: “Waking up to the sad demise of my good friend Festus Amimo… i am devastated! How can life be so fickle? Go well, my brother, Jakom.”

Ramogi FM’s Victor Otieno Juma recalled the shock of receiving the news in the early hours of Sunday morning, simply noting: “Black Sunday again. Bro why now? An unusual call came through at 3am, Early Sunday Morning. Rest well Festus Amimo.”
