Vince Zampella, the co-founder of the Call of Duty franchise, tragically passed away at 55 in a car crash in Los Angeles.
He was driving his Ferrari on Angeles Crest Highway when it veered off the road, struck a concrete barrier, and caught fire. Zampella was pronounced dead at the scene, while a passenger was ejected and died at a hospital.
Zampella was a gaming industry icon, known for his work at Infinity Ward and Respawn Entertainment.
He co-created Call of Duty, which has sold over 500 million copies and boasts 100 million monthly active players.
He also led Respawn Entertainment, developing hits like Titanfall, Apex Legends, and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
Electronic Arts, the parent company of Respawn, paid tribute to Zampella, saying his influence on the gaming industry was “profound and far-reaching”.
