Wajackoyah receives Tanzanian youths Fleeing political unrest

Prof. George Wajackoyah, who also serves as a lawyer for Tanzania’s opposition party CHADEMA, has today received a group of Tanzanian youths who fled their country citing political persecution.

The group, led by CHADEMA’s Director of Organization, Training and Elections, recounted harrowing experiences of escaping the country at night amid what they described as a worsening political crisis.

Rose Mayemba, a member of CHADEMA’s central committee, broke down in tears as she narrated how she fled Tanzania to save her life.

They say more than 600 people are facing treason-related charges, while over 10,000 have allegedly been killed in the ongoing unrest.

They appealed for calm as they continue to challenge President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s election victory in court.

Prof Wajackoyah thanked the Kenyan government for keeping its borders open to refugees but criticized it for sending DP Kindiki, to attend Samia’s inauguration, a move he said legitimized the Tanzanian government.

Wajackoyah has urged the opposition to issue a statement in solidarity with Tanzanians, adding that “the government has a moral and legal obligation to protect those fleeing persecution.”
