Wamuchomba handed a 20 day suspension from Parliament for ‘contempt of the house’

Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has been suspended from Parliament for 20 days following a heated exchange with Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.

The suspension, announced by Speaker Moses Wetang’ula on Wednesday, August 13, bars her from accessing all parliamentary precincts and facilities, including the restaurant and gym.

Wamuchomba’s suspension arose from her dissatisfaction with Murkomen’s responses during a session where he was being questioned on national security matters.

The MP challenged the CS to account for the whereabouts of Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, a suspected serial killer believed to be responsible for the deaths of 42 women.

Khalusha is said to have escaped from custody, and Wamuchomba expressed her frustration with what she considered evasive answers.

Expressing her discontent, Wamuchomba accused Murkomen of failing to take responsibility for the missing fugitive.

She declared, “I refuse to sit in this house to listen to the CS confirm that the ministry cannot capture suspects who were previously under their custody.” She then proceeded to walk out of the lower house while another MP was speaking.

Speaker Wetang’ula deemed this action as contempt of the house, leading to the 20-day suspension.

In response to the security concerns raised, CS Murkomen confirmed that a special unit had been deployed to track down the suspect.

He also revealed that the National Police Service (NPS) is implementing new policy directives to enhance public safety and improve accountability, particularly in handling cases of abductions and extrajudicial killings.

Furthermore, the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) has launched an independent inquiry to establish the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s escape.
