Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has come out guns blazing, dismissing mounting pressure on the United Opposition to name its 2027 presidential candidate while launching a scathing attack on President William Ruto’s administration.

Speaking to the press on Tuesday, the former Deputy President maintained that the coalition is in no hurry to unveil its “flagbearer,” drawing parallels to the 2002 General Election.

“There is no hurry. Mwai Kibaki was named as the opposition flagbearer on October 14, 2002, for an election held on December 27—just over two months later. There is no reason for us to rush,” Gachagua stated.
Gachagua confirmed that despite the internal “delicate process” of coalition building, the United Opposition remains committed to a single-candidate strategy. He urged supporters to remain patient as the member parties iron out the details.

“Our goal is to field one presidential candidate to take on William Ruto. We ask Kenyans to be patient; we are building a formidable front,” he added.
