Webuye gets sporting boost as CS Mvurya launches new academy at Bokoli Boys

The Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, Salim Mvurya, today commissioned the construction of the seventh in a series of 37 nationwide sports academies.

This latest sports academy will be located at Friends School Bokoli Boys High School in Webuye West Constituency, Bungoma County.

This initiative follows the Kenyan government’s allocation of Ksh 1.7 billion in December 2024 for the development of these 37 pilot Constituency Sports Academies, with a projected completion date of 2027.

The constituencies earmarked to benefit from these new sports facilities include: Mwala, Bomet East, Ugenya, Nandi Hills, Teso South, Keiyo North, Kiharu, Suba South, Mogotio, Turbo, Kasarani, Aldai, Marakwet West, Ikolomani, Budalangi, Hamisi, Yatta, Kabuchai, Nambale, Matungulu, Webuye West, Mwingi West, Thika Town, Isiolo Town, Embakasi Central, Kitui East, Keiyo South, Moyale, Turkana North, Turbaj, Marakwet East, Kabete, Mandera, and Kandara.

Construction on the Constituency Sports Academies began in mid-April 2025. CS Salim Mvurya has so far officiated groundbreaking ceremonies at several sites, including:

  • Magunga Primary School in Suba South Constituency, Homa Bay County (groundbreaking in early May 2025).
  • Taru Secondary School in Kinango Constituency, Kwale County (construction expected to take five months from April 18, 2025).
  • Matuga Girls Secondary School in Matuga Constituency, Kwale County.
