Days after rumors spread on social media alleging that Kwanza Constituency MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi (Ford Kenya) is dead, National Assembly Speaker Dr. Moses Wetang’ula has urged youths and other social media users to guard their digital footprint as misuse cases surge.
Wetang’ula spoke this in Kanduyi Constituency on Wednesday during the burial of retired teacher Patrick Makali brother to MP John Makali at Mukhaweli primary school.
Wetang’ula dismissed online allegations that the MP was dead, affirming that the MP is in stable condition and he is receiving treatment in India.
The speaker revealed that he has been in frequent conversation with the MP.
“Let me assure that our brother Ferdinand Wanyonyi the Kwanza MP in Trans- Nzoia County is in India receiving treatment, those who spread propaganda through social media should stop hatred,” Wetang’ula stated.
The Ford Kenya leader also implored on those undermining and accusing opponents online arguing that such politics won’t bring change.
“Let us stop this politics of accusing others online instead of loving another and supporting elected leaders to work for us,” he stated.
He decried a new trend of politics in the region where people accuse each other in public arguing that he is the only leader in the Western region whom he should be supported to bring development.
“When we accuse and exchange online, how will other people perceive us, may not be your best but I am the one who has, and I’m here as your leader,” he said.
Wetang’ula implored on Luhya’s to love and support him the way Kikuyu did to former Presidents Uhuru Kenyatta and the late Mwai Kibaki.
Further, Wetang’ula promised Bungoma people that he will work for them and represent them to the national level.
“In Bungoma, we are working as a team with Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) and MPs to ensure that we make Bungoma a better place to live and things work,” he said.
Wetang’ula announced that the investor who took over Nzoia Sugar Company has assured that by next January the company will be up and running to ensure that farmers are paid on time.
