Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya has revealed why there is a delay in the handing over of Nyayo Stadium to the African Nations Championship (CHAN) Local Organising Committee (LOC), even as preparations for the August 2024 CHAN tournament intensifies.

The CS revealed that the perimeter wall is yet to be completed and once complete everything will be as per CAF Security Standard,

The wall which is still under construction was demolished and redesigned to meet stringent CAF security standards. The wall has witnessed incident were it has been breached during high profile events that turned violent.

The update comes just days after the official handover of the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, to the CHAN LOC on Monday.

Mvurya emphasized that the timely handover of Kasarani is a strong indicator that Kenya is firmly on track with its CHAN preparations.

The government has heavily invested in upgrading both Kasarani and Nyayo Stadia, which are earmarked as the primary venues for the CHAN matches.

In addition to the main stadia, several training venues including the Ulinzi Sports Complex, Kenya Police Sacco Stadium, Kasarani Annex, and Kirigiti Stadium have undergone major upgrades in readiness for the tournament, which Kenya will co-host with Uganda and Tanzania.
