Wicknell Chivayo: The Zimbabwean tycoon that hobnobs with the high and mighty

Wicknell Chivayo, ( born, 22 November 1982) in Harare, Zimbabwe is known for his involvement in government tenders, flamboyant lifestyle, and close associations with the ruling ZANU-PF party.

However, it is his regular dalliance with President William Ruto that has attracted Kenyans’ attention.

On his social media pages, Chivayo has posted photos with President Ruto, his Deputy Kithure Kindiki and even some with Kenya’s First Lady, Rachael Ruto some of which have been taken right in State House.

A little dig reveals that he is the founder and CEO of Intratrek Zimbabwe, a company that has secured several government contracts, notably in the energy sector.

Chivayo has made headlines for his extravagant gifts to various individuals; including musicians, journalists, and religious leaders.

For instance in May 2025, he gifted the famous broadcaster Reuben Bware a brand-new 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser VXR LX 300 Series, and US$ 100,000 in cash.

Chivayo is known to be die-hard supporter of the ZANU-PF party and President Emmerson Mnangagwa. He has publicly endorsed Mnangagwa’s calls, to extend his presidency beyond the constitutional term limits, a surprise that has sparked intense debates within the party.

Mnangagwa’s close relationship with the Chivayo has been a point of contention, with some party members airing their concern over his influence and the implications for internal party dynamics.

He once publicly criticized Acting president Constantino Chiwenga in January 2025, describing him as a ”failed politician,” following Chiwenga’s remarks on corruption within the party.

Chivayo previously sponsored 2025 Zimbabwe Premier League champions Scotland FC with US$1 million. In 2026, he injected US$585,000 into Highlands FC, in addition to donating a team bus valued at R4.5 million.

Chivayos spending habits have raised eyebrows in the public. Investigations have revealed that he spent over US$9.3 million on luxury cars and gifts within a year.

This sparked debate about his source of money and the transparency in government contracts awarded to his companies.

In 2025, he faced backlash for allegedly attempting to influence the Zimbabwean Football Association election, by promising vehicles and financial incentives to voters, this act was perceived by many as buying votes.

Chivayo denied the allegations stating that his support for ZIFA was independent and at all politically influenced.

In 2017, Chivayo married Sonja Madzikanda, reportedly having paid US$50, 000 as bride price. The wedding was attended by high ranking personalities, including the late musician Oliver Mtukudzi who performed at the ceremony.

In March 2025, Chivayo married Lucy Lulu Mteke, with whom he had been in a relationship since late 2024. The two held both traditional and white wedding ceremonies .
