The Wajir County Government 4th Annual Qur’an Competition came to a successful close on Sunday, February 2, marking another milestone in the county’s efforts to promote religious education and moral values among the youth.
The competition, held in Wajir Township, brought together participants from across the county who competed in three categories, showcasing exceptional mastery and memorization of the Holy Qur’an.
All winners and participants received prizes in recognition of their dedication and hard work, with organizers terming the event a celebration of faith, discipline and talent.
Abdullahi Abass emerged as the overall best student after clinching the top position in the 30th Juz category. He was awarded a Probox vehicle and KSh260,000 in cash for his outstanding performance.





Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi Mohamed, who hosted and facilitated the competition through the county government, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting religious programs. “As a county, we believe in nurturing our children through both formal and religious education. This competition is part of our broader vision to build a morally upright and empowered generation,” he said.
The closing ceremony was graced by Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs, Hassan Ali Joho, who commended Wajir for investing in spiritual development. “The discipline and dedication demonstrated by these young participants is commendable. Such initiatives strengthen our social fabric and preserve our values,” Joho noted.
Religious leaders also lauded the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful in shaping the character of young people.
Sheikh Daud Mohamed urged parents to continue guiding their children in religious teachings. “The Qur’an is a light in our lives. When we invest in our children’s spiritual growth, we secure the future of our community,” he said.
Leaders present at the ceremony echoed the call for unity and collective responsibility in mentoring the youth, emphasizing that religious education remains a cornerstone of societal stability.
The county government pledged to continue supporting religious education and nurturing young talent, as residents prayed for blessings upon Wajir County and its children.
