The Odinga family has been thrown into mourning once again, less than two months after the death of Raila Amollo Odinga. Beryl Achieng Odinga, the late politician’s sister, passed away on Tuesday, 25th November.
The timing of her death is particularly poignant, as it occurred on the day that the official mourning period (40 days) for her brother, Raila, came to an end, according to Luo tradition.

Winnie Odinga, Raila’s daughter, shared an emotional tribute to her late aunt on social media, reflecting the family’s deep sorrow.
“Today was the end of the official mourning period. 40 days were over. I know you’re in a better place, Auntie. RIP,”

Winnie posted this message alongside a photo featuring her late father and Beryl from their younger years, adding an emoji of a black heart to convey her devastation. She was later seen embracing her cousins, Beryl’s daughters, offering and receiving comfort during the difficult time.

Beryl Achieng Odinga’s body was taken to the Lee Funeral Home, a confirmation made public by Kisumu Woman Representative, Ruth Odinga.
The family was quickly surrounded by members of the ODM Party, who arrived in large numbers to offer support and commiserate with the grieving relatives of their deceased leader.
Ruth Odinga commented on the outpouring of support:
“Thank you to the friends and colleagues who have come to commiserate with us during this difficult time.”
While a member of one of Kenya’s most prominent political families, Beryl Achieng Odinga kept a relatively low profile and was not actively involved in front-line politics.
Key facts about Beryl Odinga’s life were, she was a trained teacher and lawyer by profession.she was the only one of her siblings who studied entirely in Kenya. She once recalled her time at university alongside notable figures like Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who was her former classmate.
