On March 8, 2026, a 35-year-old Florida woman identified as Ivanna Lisette Ortiz allegedly fired multiple rounds toward the Beverly Crest, Los Angeles area home of Rihanna in broad daylight.
Authorities say Rihanna, her partner A$AP Rocky, their three young children, Rihanna’s mother, and two staff members were present inside the property at the time, though thankfully no one was injured.
Los Angeles County prosecutors, led by District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman, have charged Ortiz with a total of 14 felony counts, including one count of attempted murder, 10 counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, and three charges of firing at a residential building, charges that reflect not only the alleged attempt on Rihanna’s life but also the danger posed to her family, staff and neighbors during the afternoon attack.
According to court filings, Ortiz drove up to the gated residence and opened fire with a semiautomatic rifle, striking the home’s exterior and gate. Authorities also say bullets hit a neighboring house and adjacent trailer on the property.
After the shooting, Ortiz fled the scene but was quickly tracked and arrested by Los Angeles police in the Sherman Oaks neighborhood shortly afterward, where the weapon was recovered.
In her first court appearance, Ortiz appeared in blue jail attire, and her arraignment was continued to March 25. A judge set bail at $1.875 million, and she has been ordered to have no contact with Rihanna (legal name Robin Fenty), Rakim Mayers (A$AP Rocky) or their home, nor possess any firearms.
If convicted on all counts, Ortiz faces up to life in a California state prison. Prosecutors have emphasised the severity of the offense, condemning the dangerous act that could have resulted in loss of life.
Investigators are still trying to determine the motive behind Ortiz’s actions. So far, there is no known personal relationship between the suspect and Rihanna. Reports indicate Ortiz had made cryptic and obsessive social media posts directed at Rihanna in the weeks before the shooting, but authorities have not confirmed whether these shed light on her motive.
The incident has reignited discussions around celebrity security and gun access, especially given that the attack occurred despite robust security measures at the property. Rihanna’s representatives have not publicly commented on the incident, and Rihanna herself has remained silent through official channels as the legal process continues.
