Jane Wanjiru Macharia was sentenced to 40 years in prison on Thursday, June 5, at The High Court in Nanyuki, after she was found guilty of murdering her ex-lover, George Gachibi Karegwa, on 4th December 2018.
The court heard that on the night of the incident, Wanjiru, accompanied by two accomplices, unlawfully entered the deceased’s residence, where they murdered him. They went further to rob the deceased of personal effects, household items, and his motor vehicle.
During the sentencing hearing, it was revealed that the accused was already serving three sentences for separate robbery offences and had two other active robbery cases pending before the court.
The prosecution added that the additional robberies were committed while Wanjiru was out on bond in the present murder case, leading to the revocation of her bond.
Although the accused initially denied the charge, she later changed her plea and was sentenced to 40 years imprisonment.
