Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) champions Ivory Coast secured their return to the FIFA World Cup extravaganza in 2026, defeating Kenya 3-0 in their final Group F match on Tuesday at the Alassane Ouattara Ebimpé Olympic Stadium.

This win ensures the Elephants’ place in the US, Mexico, and Canada tournament after missing the previous two editions in Russia and Qatar.

The Ivorians wasted no time asserting their dominance, taking the lead just seven minutes in. Manchester United winger Amad Diallo delivered a low cross from the left flank, which Franck Kessié calmly slotted past Kenyan goalkeeper Byrne Omondi.

The early goal set the tone, with Ivory Coast controlling possession and the match tempo. Despite a hard-working defense, Kenya was constantly under pressure.

The lead was doubled in the 53rd minute through a brilliant solo effort from Yan Diomande. The Ivorian winger sprinted down the left, evaded several defenders, and finished with a well-placed shot that effectively put the match beyond Kenya’s reach.

Kenya struggled offensively, managing only a single shot throughout the entire match, which went wide. Substitutions in the second half, including Duke Abuya replacing Michael Olunga in the 67th minute, failed to break down the Ivorian defense.

Amad Diallo capped off his stellar performance with a goal in the 84th minute. After a foul on the edge of the box, Diallo took the subsequent free-kick, curling the ball around the Kenyan wall and into the top corner of the net a stunning display of precision.

The game concluded with a well-deserved 3-0 victory for Ivory Coast, cementing their ticket to the 2026 World Cup.
